The Amazing Race

Why is everyone in such a hurry?

I was in the grocery store the other day and was walking rather quickly trying to get through the crowds so I could be on my way. An elderly man made a comment that stuck with me. He said "Why are young people in such a hurry? Their life will be over before they realized they lived it."

I stopped for a moment and continued on my way as I was late leaving for my karate class.

Why are we in a hurry?

I am a busy woman, I have a 4 year old child with Cerebral palsy, I am a married woman, I have a house to take care of, food to prepare and on top of that I am taking karate. I am busy, but do I take the time to see the little things in life? I try to, when I have time.

My 4 year old can read, do math and problem solving skills. We go to the parks, rock climbing and he, himself, is taking karate. He's the first to point out an airplane flying in the sky. The first to point out the bunny rabbit that's sitting in our yard. The first to see the butterfly on a new bloom. Why is that? Children have no concept of time. Well, an accurate concept of time. They don't know what busy is because they're in a routine, and if we have to go to seven places before supper time, that's normal. They still see the little things along the way.

When was the last time you lay in the yard and just watched the clouds pass by? The last time I remember, I was 18 and just graduated from high school. I was pondering marriage and needed a break. My break was just to lay down, to stop what I was doing and relax. I think if we all took some time to slow down and relax we would he healthier and happier. Studies show stress is bad for the heart and immune systems. We are killing ourselves killing ourselves.

My thoughts are: Slow down, smell the flowers. Who knows, you might find a little honey.

Alabama has a song that I recommend listening to and take head to the message. It's called "In a Hurry" (Note: Alabama is a country music band)

I know how easy it is to not stop and smell the roses because you are too busy. What a good reminder of why we should.
