Furthering your education

You've graduated school, so should you stop learning?

Each night before I go to bed, I write a page long "essay" if you will, on a specific person, event, war, battle or place in history. I have 2 notebooks STUFFED FULL of these essays, all in chronological order. I also am brushing up on my French (3 years in high school) and my Spanish (my brother-in-law is from Mexico, no formal schooling in Spanish except for him) Now, do you have to go to this extent? No. But this is my way of continuing my education. Especially since I've became a mom and time has become scarce to hit the library's historical sections. Do I remember everything I've written in these papers? Absolutely not. However, I have a reference to help my son when he's in school and needs help with something. I also read each essay every once in a while to brush up on the contents but to me, learning is fun. I also set a standard for my son. When he sees me reading and writing, he wants to read and write. He's 4 years old and his handwriting skills surpass kindergarten. As well as his reading and math skills. Why? Because he sees it's fun for me so therefore he sees it as fun for him.

So, back to my original question, should you stop learning because you've finished school?

Question for you. When you woke up this morning and fed your kids, did you learn something? A new recipe, a new spin to take with the waffles, a new sound even to make them eat? Yes? You learned something.

My thoughts are: You will NEVER know everything about everything. You will ALWAYS have more room to learn. Find a subject that you like and stick with it. Research it, there's always more information out there on any subject you pick. Who knows, you may pick up a great hobby and set a good example for your kids.
