Hate

Hate, what is hate?

Webster defines hate as an extreme dislike for something or antipathy.

I spend a lot of time on youtube.com with my son. We watch everything from cartoons to movies, commercials to tv shows. I like to be with him anytime we watch something new to make sure he understands a. what it is and b. if it's a curse word or bad situation we can discuss it. What really agitates me is the comments some people post. Thankfully, my son can't read a lot of the words, let's face it, I don't read a lot of the words. But people can be so rude and hateful toward people that they've never known. How?

I was always taught "If you ain't got nothing nice to say, don't say nothing" Now, as an adult, I shudder at the triple negative in that sentence, but the meaning is true.

Words hurt, sometimes more than actions. I think that if we would attempt to understand a situation, we would all be better off.

Me and my son were watching a Sponge Bob episode the other day. The comments on there were INSANE! And it's a cartoon. Imagine if it were actually something controversial. The comments ranged from "funny episode, my daughter's favorite"' to something I won't repeat. Why do people hate over something so trivial as a cartoon? If you show hatred this easily, I'd hate to see you if you REALLY hated someone. (See how easy it is to throw around that word?)

Hate is such a strong emotion, I try not to even say the word in passing. Such as: Man, I hated what they killed her off of the show. Do you really HATE that? You have such a strong emotional bond to the character that you actually hate that they took her off the show? No, that's silly. But the word is used in such ways now, that I feel that kids get confused and don't know the true meaning.

I have never felt true hatred for someone. I have felt true dislike and disgust. But hatred? I have never disliked someone to the point I want them injured or hurt. To me, that is the definition of hatred: extreme dislike for someone or something, to the point you wish ill will against it.

My thoughts: Don't sling around the word "hatred" for any little thing. Hatred is a big deal, and treat it as such
