Effort is (according to Webster)
1. A serious attempt
2. Hard-work, a conscience exertion of power
3. Total work given to achieve a certain end
In our daily lives do we give our all in our activities? At work, do you give 100% participation into your duty? I am a mother and a stay-at-home mom, so I tend to let myself slack off on some duties if I don't feel like doing it. My laundry tends to pile up because I HATE folding it, dishes can pile because I don't like our dishwasher. Do I give my house 100% effort when cleaning? No, I find excuses as I just gave to not do something, and it's accepted. Should it be? No.
Karate, do I give my full effort? Depends on the night. If I'm tired there's only so much effort I can put into the activities before my body stops, so I tend to half the effort so that I can hang on. If I'm full of energy, he has my all.
Why are these things bad? They're not "bad" per say, they're just not "healthy" for you. Effort is needed to achieve greatness. If you only give half of your effort, you only get half of the result.
Example, say I give David half effort. We're doing math and I write down 3-3=??? and tell him to do it. No teaching, no explaining, is he going to get the answer correct? No. I explain 3 apples taking away 3 apples leave how many apples? Will he get the answer correct? Chances are yes.
Spiritually if we don't give all our effort to live life according to the Word, are we going to get the end we want? We may slide through, but really, do you want to slide through life?
My thoughts? Don't slide through life on a technicality. It takes the fun out of things and my biggest daily ritual is having fun. Give life your all so when you're gone, people will know you were a person of greatness.
