This time of the year, people are running around trying to find the perfect gift for the family. Where does generosity fit in? I had a child tell me that her definition of generosity was "Giving with a good heart." She was 10 years old and already knew the difference in buying presents for Christmas and being generous with your self and tangible items. Buying gifts doesn't make you generous because it's really something that's expected of you this time of the year. But with so families having nothing or next to nothing, how can you not be generous?
Shelters need blankets
Food pantries need dry food
charities need donations (not necessarily monetary donations either)
You may have a neighbor or know a small child who needs clothes or shoes
volunteering at a charity such as a kitchen or meals on wheels
volunteering to clean your school, road, neighbor's yard etc
There are so many opportunities to show that you care this holiday season, why not give? Giving isn't necessarily of your money, it can be of your time, your labor or your knowledge and wisdom to use your knowledge.
Christmas is about love, generosity, peace, togetherness and above all else, the celebration of Christ. We have became so commercialized that we're more into "I have to spend this much money" or want to buy "one more gift" that we've forgotten that we should be celebrating. Giving presents is good yes, but giving to those in need is great.
My thoughts: Just love one another, the rest will take care of itself.
